Assembly Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Noodles
Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- 2
Prepare the Meat Sauce
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Add marinara sauce to the meat and simmer for 10 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper.
- 3
Prepare the Ricotta Mixture
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, fresh basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- 4
Layer the Lasagna
In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/3 of the meat sauce and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers two more times. For the final layer, top with remaining noodles, meat sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- 5
Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
