Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and softened butter. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Roll and Fold

After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle. Fold it into thirds like a letter, then roll it out again. Repeat this process 3-4 times to create layers.

  4. 4

    Shape the Croissants

Roll the dough into a large rectangle one last time and cut it into triangles. Starting from the base of each triangle, roll it up towards the tip to form a croissant shape. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. 5

    Final Rise

Cover the croissants with a cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, until puffed.

  6. 6

    Preheat and Bake

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush the croissants with beaten egg and bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with local jams or Nutella.
