Mint Base

Citrus Brightness

Optional Garnish & Sweetening

Method

Mint Base

  1. 1

    Make mint syrup

Combine granulated sugar and warm water in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add fresh mint leaves. Let steep for 15 minutes, pressing leaves gently with a spoon to release oils. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, discard solids, and set mint syrup aside to cool.

Green Tea Blend

  1. 2

    Steep green tea

Bring 1 cup hot water to about 175–185°F (just off boil). Add 2 tsp loose green tea (or 2 tea bags), steep 2–3 minutes for a bright, not-bitter brew. Strain and allow to cool until warm, about 5 minutes.

  2. 3

If you prefer stronger flavor, steep an extra minute; for a lighter profile, steep less time.

Citrus Brightness

  1. 4

Zest one lemon and measure 1 teaspoon zest. Juice fresh limes until you have 2 tablespoons of lime juice. Briefly whisk the zest into the lime juice to bloom the oils.

Creamy Finish

  1. 5

In a medium bowl or jug, combine whole milk, optional light cream, and vanilla extract. Whisk gently to combine and create a uniform creamy base.

  2. 6

Taste the milk mixture; if you want it a touch sweeter or silkier, add the optional 1 tsp honey or 1 tsp simple syrup and whisk again.

Assemble Mint Melange

  1. 7

Fill two glasses with crushed ice (about 1/2 cup crushed ice per glass). Divide the cooled green tea between the glasses.

  2. 8

Add 1–1.5 tablespoons of the mint syrup to each glass (adjust to taste). Stir gently to combine the tea and syrup.

  3. 9

Add 1 tablespoon lime juice mixture (lime juice + zest) to each glass and stir once more.

  4. 10

Top each glass with about 1/2 cup creamy milk mixture. Use a spoon to gently layer or swirl so the drink has a marbled, melange appearance.

  5. 11

Garnish each glass with a fresh mint sprig and, if desired, an extra pinch of lemon zest on top.

Final Adjustments & Serving

  1. 12

Taste and adjust: add more mint syrup if you prefer sweeter, more lime for tang, or an extra splash of milk for creaminess. Serve immediately while cold.
