Frangelico Cocktail
Method
Frangelico Cocktail
Prepare ingredients
If you haven't already, brew a small, strong espresso or coffee and allow it to cool to room temperature (or chill briefly). If using heavy cream and you prefer a lightly shaken creamy top, lightly whip the cream by hand to slightly thicken, or use half-and-half for a thinner finish. If you want sweeter cocktail, have simple syrup ready.
Chill glass
Place an old-fashioned glass or coupe in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you mix the drink to chill it.
Mix cocktail
Add 6 ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. Pour in 1.5 oz Frangelico, 1 oz vodka, 1 oz cooled espresso (or strong coffee), 0.5 oz heavy cream (or half-and-half), and 0.25 oz simple syrup if using. Secure the lid.
Shake
Shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and the cream is slightly aerated. A vigorous shake creates a creamy, slightly frothy top and properly mixes the liqueur and coffee.
Strain and serve
Dump any ice or water from the chilled glass. Double strain the cocktail into the chilled glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer (to remove tiny ice shards and produce a smooth surface).
Garnish
Lightly grate a teaspoon of dark chocolate or dust with cocoa powder over the top. Optionally float a whole toasted hazelnut or a coffee bean on the surface for presentation.
Enjoy
Serve immediately. Sip and enjoy the nutty, coffee-forward flavors balanced by cream and vodka.
