Dough Ingredients
Method
Croissant Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Make Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- 3
Chill Dough
Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size. Then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- 4
Laminate with Butter
Roll the chilled dough into a rectangle. Spread softened butter over two-thirds of the dough. Fold the unbuttered third over the middle, then fold the other third over that, creating a letter fold. Chill for 30 minutes.
- 5
Roll and Fold
Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times, chilling for 30 minutes between folds.
- 6
Shape Croissants
Roll the dough into a large rectangle, then cut into triangles. Starting from the base, roll each triangle tightly to form a croissant shape.
- 7
Second Rise
Place the shaped croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for about 1 hour until puffy.
- 8
Preheat Oven
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 9
Egg Wash and Bake
Beat the egg and brush it over the croissants. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.
- 10
Cool and Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm.
