Method
Preparing the Bread
- 1
Slice the Bread
Using a serrated knife, slice the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2 inch thick slices.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Preparing the Topping
- 3
Chop the Tomatoes
Dice the ripe tomatoes into small cubes and place them in a mixing bowl.
- 4
Chop the Basil
Roughly chop the fresh basil leaves and add them to the bowl with the tomatoes.
- 5
Add Garlic
Mince the garlic cloves and add them to the tomato and basil mixture.
- 6
Season the Mixture
Add balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix everything gently until well combined. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Assembling the Bruschetta
- 7
Top the Bread
Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven. Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of toasted bread.
- 8
Serve
Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and serve immediately as an appetizer or snack.
