Method
Filling Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Filling
In a large bowl, combine the long-grain rice, ground beef or lamb, finely chopped onion, chopped parsley, chopped mint leaves, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
Grape Leaves Preparation
- 2
Prepare the Grape Leaves
Carefully remove the grape leaves from the jar. Rinse them under cold water to remove excess brine, and lay them flat on a clean surface. If the leaves are too thick, you can blanch them in boiling water for a few minutes to soften.
Rolling and Cooking
- 3
Roll the Grape Leaves
Take a grape leaf and place about 1 tablespoon of the filling at the base of the leaf. Fold the sides over the filling and roll it up tightly from the base to the tip. Repeat this process for the remaining leaves and filling.
- 4
Cook the Grape Leaves
In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Arrange the rolled grape leaves in the pot, seam side down. Pour water or broth over the grape leaves until they are just covered. Place a plate on top to keep them submerged and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 40-45 minutes until the rice is cooked and the leaves are tender.
