Directions
- 1
Prepare the Sushi Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rinsed rice and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
- 2
Cook the Rice
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 20 minutes or until the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes.
- 3
Season the Rice
In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the cooked rice with a spatula. Let it cool to room temperature.
- 4
Prepare the Tuna Mixture
In a bowl, combine the drained tuna and mayonnaise. Mix well until the tuna is fully coated.
- 5
Assemble the Roll
Place a nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat. Wet your hands to prevent sticking, then spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge.
- 6
Add Fillings
In the center of the rice, place a line of the tuna mixture and top with a few slices of cucumber.
- 7
Roll the Sushi
Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, pressing gently but firmly to keep the roll tight. Seal the edge of the nori with a little water.
- 8
Slice the Roll
Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Wipe the knife with a damp cloth between cuts for cleaner slices.
- 9
Serve
Arrange the sushi rolls on a plate and serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
