Flan Base
Caramel Topping
Method
Prepare the Caramel
- 1
Make the Caramel
In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves.
- 2
Cook the Caramel
Once dissolved, increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Allow it to cook until it turns a golden amber color, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3
Pour Caramel into Mold
Quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of a flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
Prepare the Flan
- 4
- 5
Pour Flan Mixture
Carefully pour the blended flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold or ramekins.
- 6
Bake the Flan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan mold or ramekins into a larger baking dish. Fill the baking dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold.
- 7
Cooking Time
Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
- 8
Cool the Flan
Once baked, remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- 9
Unmold and Serve
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top. Slice and enjoy!
