Meatballs

Cheesy Mozzarella Moons

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into 2-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20 minutes or until browned.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onions and Garlic

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes, then add chopped basil. Set aside.

Cheesy Mozzarella Moons

  1. 7

    Prepare the Dough

In a bowl, combine shredded mozzarella cheese, flour, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 8

    Shape the Moons

On a floured surface, roll out the dough and cut it into moon shapes using a cookie cutter or knife.

  3. 9

    Cook the Moons

In a large skillet, heat a bit of oil over medium heat. Cook the moon shapes for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Assembling the Dish

  1. 10

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

In a pot, combine the baked meatballs with the marinara sauce. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

  2. 11

    Serve the Dish

Plate the meatballs with marinara sauce, add a dollop of ricotta cheese, and sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese. Serve alongside the cheesy mozzarella moons, garnished with fresh basil or parsley.
