Method

Bourbon Onion Jam

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel and slice the yellow onions into thin strips.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Onions

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook until the onions become soft and translucent, about 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Caramelize the Onions

Add the brown sugar and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Liquids

Stir in the bourbon and balsamic vinegar. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.

Burger Patties

  1. 5

    Prepare the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. 6

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties.

  3. 7

    Cook the Patties

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

  4. 8

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 10

    Assemble the Burgers

On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce, a cooked burger patty with melted cheese, caramelized bourbon onion jam, and a slice of tomato. Top with the other half of the bun.
