Corn Dog Batter and Fillings
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix well. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and the egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 2
Prepare the Sausages and Cheese
Insert wooden skewers into each hot dog and breakfast sausage link until they are secure. You will have 4 hot dogs and 4 sausage links.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
- 4
Coat and Fry the Dogs
Dip each skewered hot dog and sausage link into the batter, making sure they are completely coated. Carefully place them into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Add Cheese
While the corn dogs are still hot, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the hot dog side and allow it to melt slightly before serving.
