Method
Fried Green Tomatoes Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Slice the green tomatoes into 1/2 inch thick slices and set aside.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour mixed with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in one; buttermilk in the second; and cornmeal in the third.
- 3
Bread the Tomatoes
Dredge each tomato slice in flour, then dip it in buttermilk, and finally coat it with cornmeal, ensuring an even layer on each slice.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
- 5
Fry the Tomatoes
Carefully place the breaded tomato slices in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown.
- 6
Drain and Keep Warm
Remove the fried tomatoes and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Keep warm in an oven set to low heat.
Pimento Cheese Preparation
- 7
Combine Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sharp cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, pimentos, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt.
- 8
Mix Thoroughly
Use a hand mixer or a fork to blend all the ingredients together until creamy and well mixed.
- 9
Refrigerate
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
8595 Sauce Preparation
- 10
Mix the Ingredients
In a small bowl, combine ketchup, hot sauce, honey, lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt.
- 11
Stir Until Smooth
Whisk the ingredients together until fully combined and smooth.
- 12
Serve
Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl and set aside for serving with the fried tomatoes.
