Omelet Base

Method

Preparing the Omelet

  1. 1

    Whisk the Eggs

In a mixing bowl, crack 3 large eggs. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Whisk until well combined and slightly frothy.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Allow the butter to melt and coat the bottom of the pan.

  3. 3

    Cook the Eggs

Pour the egg mixture into the skillet. Let it cook undisturbed for about 1-2 minutes until the edges begin to set.

  4. 4

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle your choice of toppings (such as cheddar cheese, diced bell peppers, chopped onions, sliced mushrooms, cooked bacon, fresh spinach, diced tomatoes, or sliced jalapeños) over half of the omelet.

  5. 5

    Fold the Omelet

Using a spatula, carefully fold the omelet in half over the toppings. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the omelet is cooked through.

  6. 6

    Plate the Omelet

Slide the omelet onto a plate and keep warm while preparing the sides.

Preparing the Sides

  1. 7

    Make Home Fries

Dice the potatoes into small cubes. Heat a separate skillet over medium heat with a bit of oil. Add the potatoes and season with salt. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.

  2. 8

    Cook the Grits

In a saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 cup of grits and 1 teaspoon of salt. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened. Stir in 1 tablespoon of butter before serving.
