Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ribeye

Take the 16 oz ribeye steak out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to 1 hour before cooking. This helps the steak to cook evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Drizzle olive oil on the steak and rub it in to ensure an even coating.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill or a heavy skillet (preferably cast iron) over high heat for at least 5 minutes until it is very hot.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Place the ribeye steak on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side for medium-rare, or until a nice crust forms. Flip the steak and cook for another 4-5 minutes on the other side.

  3. 5

    Add Optional Butter and Rosemary

If using, add a tablespoon of butter and a sprig of fresh rosemary to the pan during the last minute of cooking. Baste the steak with the melted butter for extra flavor.

  4. 6

    Check for Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, aim for 130-135°F (54-57°C). Adjust cooking time as needed for desired doneness.

Serving

  1. 7

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest on a cutting board for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  2. 8

    Slice and Serve

Slice the ribeye against the grain and serve immediately. Enjoy with your favorite sides.
