Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ribeye

Take the 16 oz ribeye steak out of the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps the steak cook more evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Generously season both sides of the ribeye steak with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Let it rest for another 10-15 minutes.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

Heat a large cast-iron skillet or frying pan over high heat. Add the olive oil and allow it to heat until it's shimmering but not smoking.

  2. 4

    Sear the Ribeye

Place the ribeye steak in the hot skillet. Sear it without moving for about 4-5 minutes until a nice crust forms.

  3. 5

    Flip and Cook

Flip the steak using tongs and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or longer depending on your preferred doneness.

  4. 6

    Add Aromatics (Optional)

If desired, add butter, fresh rosemary, and thyme to the pan during the last minute of cooking. Baste the steak with the melted butter and herbs for extra flavor.

Resting and Serving

  1. 7

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  2. 8

    Slice and Serve

Slice the ribeye against the grain and serve immediately. Enjoy your perfectly cooked ribeye steak!
