Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
Topping Assembly
- 5
Prepare Toppings
While the dough is rising, prepare the toppings: slice the mushrooms and crumble the sausage if not pre-crumbled.
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or the highest setting your oven allows.
- 7
Roll Out Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- 8
Assemble Pizza
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread pizza sauce over the base, then layer with heritage pepperoni, fresh mushrooms, crumbled sausage, and shredded Wisconsin smoked provolone cheese.
- 9
Bake Pizza
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 10
Slice and Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
