Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Glass
Begin by chilling a mint julep glass or a highball glass by filling it with crushed ice and setting it aside.
- 2
Muddle the Mint
In a separate mixing glass, add the fresh mint leaves. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press the mint leaves, releasing their oils. Be careful not to shred them too much, as you want to preserve their flavor.
- 3
Add Simple Syrup
Pour the simple syrup over the muddled mint leaves in the mixing glass. Stir gently to combine the mint and syrup.
- 4
Mix in Bourbon
Add the bourbon to the mixing glass and stir gently to combine all the ingredients.

- 6
Strain the Mixture
Using a strainer, pour the bourbon and mint mixture over the crushed ice in the glass, ensuring the mint leaves remain in the mixing glass.

Garnish
Garnish the drink with a fresh mint sprig on top. Optionally, you can add more crushed ice to keep the drink extra cold.
