Method
Preparing the Burger Patties
- 1
Mix the Ground Beef
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, taking care not to overwork the meat.
- 2
Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form each portion into a ball. Do not flatten them yet.

Smash the Patties
Add the meatballs to the hot skillet, leaving space between each. Using a sturdy spatula, press down firmly on each ball until they are about 1/2 inch thick. Cook for 2-3 minutes until a brown crust forms on the bottom.
- 5
Flip the Burgers
Carefully flip each patty using the spatula. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty immediately after flipping. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, until the cheese melts and the burgers are cooked through.
Assembling the Burgers
- 6
Prepare the Buns
While the burgers are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on a separate skillet if desired.
- 7
Add Mustard and Pickles
Spread about 0.5 tablespoons of yellow mustard on the bottom half of each bun. Top each with a cooked burger patty, followed by pickles.
- 8
Complete the Burger
Place the top half of the bun on each assembled burger. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Smash Burgers!
