Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chocolate Mixture

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsweetened chocolate and unsalted butter, stirring until smooth.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in the granulated sugar until well combined. Add the whole eggs and egg yolks, one at a time, whisking until fully incorporated after each addition.

  3. 3

    Add Dry Ingredients

Stir in the all-purpose flour, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until just combined. Do not overmix.

  4. 4

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four 6-ounce ramekins with butter and lightly dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  6. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is soft.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Let the cakes cool for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently lift to release the cake. Serve immediately with chocolate sauce.

Chocolate Sauce Directions

  1. 8

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer, stirring occasionally.

  2. 9

    Melt Chocolate Chips

Remove from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips, stirring until melted and smooth.

  3. 10

    Finish Sauce

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until well combined. Keep warm until ready to serve.
