Prepare the Basil Simple Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine equal parts sugar and water with a handful of fresh basil leaves. Heat gently until the sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool and strain out the basil.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the High West bourbon, fresh lime juice, and basil simple syrup. Shake well until chilled.
