Fried Pickles

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dipping Station

In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, combine the beaten egg and milk.

  2. 2

    Coat the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice first into the egg mixture, then into the flour-cornmeal mixture, making sure to coat evenly.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of the batter into the oil—if it bubbles and rises, it’s ready.

  4. 4

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully place the coated pickle slices into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Once fried, remove the pickles and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with housemade ranch dressing.
