Method
Preparing the Lamb
- 1
Mix the Lamb Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, minced garlic, ground cumin, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and olive oil. Mix well with your hands until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- 2
Shape the Lamb
Form the lamb mixture into small patties or meatballs, about 2 inches in diameter, to ensure even cooking.
- 3
Cook the Lamb
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the lamb patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and fully cooked. Remove from heat and let rest.
Making the Tzatziki Sauce
- 4
Prepare the Cucumber
Grate the cucumber and then place it in a clean kitchen towel. Squeeze out excess moisture to avoid a watery sauce.
- 5
Assembling the Gyro
- 6
Prepare Pita and Vegetables
Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds until pliable. Prepare the sliced tomatoes, red onion, and shredded lettuce.
- 7
Assemble the Gyro
On each warm pita, place a few lamb patties, followed by slices of tomato, red onion, and shredded lettuce. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce. Wrap the pita around the filling.
- 8
Serve
Serve the lamb gyros warm, with extra tzatziki on the side if desired.
