Filo Pastry

Honey Syrup

Method

Preparation of Filo Pastry

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Baking Dish

Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.

  3. 3

    Layer the Filo

Unroll the filo pastry and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out. Place one sheet of filo in the greased dish and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process for 8 sheets, brushing each layer with butter.

Nut Filling Assembly

  1. 4

    Mix the Nut Filling

In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.

  2. 5

    Add the Nut Filling

Spread half of the nut mixture over the layered filo pastry in the baking dish.

  3. 6

    Continue Layering

Cover the nut mixture with 4 more sheets of filo, buttering each sheet. Then, add the remaining nut mixture and top with another 8 sheets of filo, buttering each layer as before.

Baking and Syrup Preparation

  1. 7

    Cut the Baklava

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.

  2. 8

    Bake the Baklava

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.

  3. 9

    Prepare the Honey Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine honey, water, and vanilla extract in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Finishing Touches

  1. 10

    Pour Syrup Over Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the warm honey syrup evenly over the hot baklava.

  2. 11

    Cool and Serve

Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving. Enjoy your delicious homemade baklava!
