Method

Preparing the Espresso

  1. 1

    Grind the Coffee Beans

Use a burr grinder to grind 18 grams of single origin coffee beans to a fine consistency, similar to table salt. This will ensure optimal extraction.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Espresso Machine

Preheat your espresso machine and ensure it’s clean. Place the portafilter on the scale and add the ground coffee to it, leveling it off.

  3. 3

    Tamp the Coffee

Use a tamper to press the coffee grounds evenly and firmly into the portafilter. Aim for about 30 pounds of pressure to create a uniform packed bed.

  4. 4

    Brew the Espresso

Lock the portafilter into the espresso machine and start the brewing process. Use filtered water at about 90-95°C (194-203°F) to extract the espresso.

  5. 5

    Serve the Espresso

Once the brewing is complete (about 25-30 seconds), serve the espresso immediately in a pre-warmed cup.

Optional Additions

  1. 6

    Add Sugar (Optional)

If desired, add 1 teaspoon of sugar to the espresso, stirring gently to dissolve.

  2. 7

    Add Milk or Cream (Optional)

If you prefer a creamier drink, add 30 ml of milk or cream to the espresso and stir to combine.
