Patty Ingredients

Toppings

Method

Prepare the Patty

  1. 1

    Mash the Black Beans

In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked black beans using a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

  2. 2

    Mix the Ingredients

Add the cooked quinoa, breadcrumbs, chopped red bell pepper, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground paprika, salt, and black pepper to the mashed beans. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

  3. 3

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Cook the Patties

  1. 4

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Cook the Patties

Place the formed patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, toast the whole wheat burger buns in a toaster or on a skillet until golden.

  2. 7

    Layer the Toppings

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a veggie patty, tomato slices, and avocado slices. Add ketchup and mustard to taste.

  3. 8

    Complete the Burger

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
