Fish and Battering

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the cold water while whisking until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Batter the Fish

Dip the haddock fillet into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.

  4. 4

    Fry the Fish

Carefully place the battered haddock into the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the fish is golden brown and crispy.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fish from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
