Method
Preparing the Veggie Patty
- 1
Mash the Black Beans
In a mixing bowl, add the canned black beans. Use a fork or a potato masher to mash them until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
Add the rolled oats, diced red bell pepper, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the mashed beans. Stir until everything is well combined.
- 3
Add Olive Oil
Drizzle in the olive oil and mix again until fully incorporated. If the mixture is too wet, add flour a tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
- 4
Form Patties
With your hands, form the mixture into two equal-sized patties.
- 5
Cook the Patties
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add a little olive oil and cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and heated through.
Assembling the Burger
- 6
Prepare the Buns
Toast the burger buns lightly in the same skillet or in a toaster until golden brown.
- 7
Layer the Ingredients
On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf followed by a veggie patty. Top with a slice of tomato.
- 8
Add Condiments
Add your choice of condiments on top, then place the other half of the bun on top to complete the burger.
- 9
Serve
Serve immediately while warm, with extra condiments on the side if desired.
