Fry Bread and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Make the Fry Bread
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add water, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 2-3 minutes until smooth.
- 2
Shape the Dough
Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten them into discs about 1/4 inch thick.
- 3
Fry the Bread
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry each disc for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 4
Cook the Ground Beef
In a separate skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat and add taco seasoning, mixing well. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- 5
Assemble the Dish
Top each fry bread with pinto beans, seasoned ground beef, and shredded red cheese. Serve warm.
