Mac & Cheese Ingredients

Method

Mac & Cheese Directions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, whisking constantly until it forms a roux. Gradually add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Cheese and Seasoning

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring to coat all the pasta evenly.

  5. 5

    Optional Breadcrumb Topping

If using breadcrumbs, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the mac & cheese into a baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly on top, and bake for about 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and crispy.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm.
