Potato Preparation
Dipping Sauce (optional)
Method
Potato Preparation
- 1
- 2
Soak Potatoes
Place the cut potato wedges in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.
- 3
Drain and Dry Potatoes
After soaking, drain the water and lay the potato wedges on a clean kitchen towel or paper towel. Pat them dry thoroughly to remove as much moisture as possible.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the correct temperature for frying.
- 5
Fry the Waffle Fries
Carefully add the potato wedges to the hot oil in batches. Fry them for about 4-5 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- 6
Drain and Season
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder to taste.
Dipping Sauce (optional)
- 7
Prepare the Dipping Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, and garlic powder until well combined. Adjust the spice level to your preference by adding more hot sauce if desired.
