Cooking Grits

1. Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.

2. Add Grits and Salt

Once the water is boiling, slowly whisk in 1 cup of grits and 1 tsp of salt to prevent clumping.

3. Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Simmer the grits for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are thickened and tender.

Cheese Mixture Preparation

4. Prepare Cheese Mixture

In a small saucepan, combine 2 tbs of butter and 0.5 cup of heavy cream over low heat. Stir until the butter is melted and the mixture is heated through.

5. Add Cheese

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Combine and Serve

6. Combine Grits and Cheese

Once the grits are cooked, stir the cheese mixture into the grits until well combined.

7. Season

Add black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper to taste, mixing well.

8. Serve

Serve the cheddar grits warm, garnishing with additional cheese or herbs if desired.
