For the Onion Rings

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel and slice the large onions into 1/4-inch thick rings. Make sure to separate the rings from each other and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk them together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Add Sparkling Water

Gradually add the cold sparkling water to the dry mixture, whisking until the batter is smooth and has a slightly thick consistency. Adjust the amount of sparkling water if necessary.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it's hot (about 350°F or 175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the prepared batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-4 minutes per side.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once cooked, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
