Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it is hot enough to bake the cookies evenly.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Mixing
- 3
Cream Butter and Sugars
In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or stand mixer, cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- 4
- 5
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Adding Mix-ins
- 6
Fold in Chocolate Chips
Using a spatula or wooden spoon, fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed in the dough.
Baking
- 7
Prepare Baking Sheet
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- 8
Scoop Dough
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
- 9
Bake Cookies
Bake in the preheated oven for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may look slightly underbaked; they will continue to set as they cool.
- 10
Cool Cookies
Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
