Pie Crust

Method

Pie Crust

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pie Crust

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.

  2. 2

Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. 3

Add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough starts to come together.

  4. 4

Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Apple Pie Filling

  1. 5

    Prepare the Apple Filling

In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Mix well until apples are evenly coated.

  2. 6

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

  3. 7

Roll out one pie crust on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place the crust in the pan.

  4. 8

Fill with the apple mixture and dot with butter.

  5. 9

Roll out the second crust and place over the filling. Crimp the edges to seal and cut slits in the top for steam.

  6. 10

Bake in preheated oven for 45-50 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden brown.

Pecan Pie Filling

  1. 11

    Prepare the Pecan Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped pecans, sugar, corn syrup, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix well until combined.

  2. 12

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 13

Roll out one pie crust on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place the crust in the pan.

  4. 14

Pour the pecan filling into the prepared crust.

  5. 15

Bake in preheated oven for 50-60 minutes until set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
