Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Okra

Rinse the okra under cold water and pat dry with a towel. Trim the ends and cut the okra into 1/2-inch slices.

Breading

  1. 2

    Make the Breading Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

  2. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Bread the Okra

Dip each okra slice first into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat it in the breading mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  3. 6

    Fry the Okra

Carefully place the breaded okra slices into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried okra from the oil and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Serve the fried okra warm as an appetizer or side dish. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce!
