Method
Ice Cream Base Preparation
Mix the Base
In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk together until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture is well combined.
Chill the Base
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to chill. This will help improve the texture of the ice cream.
Flavoring the Ice Cream
Prepare Strawberry Flavor
In another bowl, mix 1 cup of strawberry puree with a tablespoon of extra sugar. Stir in a portion of the chilled base until well combined to create the strawberry ice cream base.
Prepare Coffee Flavor
In a small bowl, dissolve 1 tablespoon of instant coffee granules in a few tablespoons of the chilled base. Mix this back into a portion of the chilled base for the coffee flavor.
Combine Vanilla Flavor
The remaining chilled base will be used as vanilla ice cream. No additional ingredients are needed.
Churning and Freezing
Churn the Ice Cream
Pour each of the flavored bases into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Freeze the Ice Cream
Transfer the churned ice cream into airtight containers. Freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
