Calamari

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  3. 3

    Prepare Egg Mixture

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Coat Calamari

Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture until fully coated.

  5. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Working in batches, fry the calamari rings for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 7

    Sauté Garlic

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 9

    Simmer Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 10

    Finish with Parsley

Stir in the fresh parsley just before serving.
