Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Generously season the porterhouse steak on both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill or a heavy skillet over high heat. If using a skillet, add olive oil to the pan.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Steak

Once the grill or pan is hot, place the steak on it. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if desired. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness (130-135°F for medium-rare).

  2. 4

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from heat and let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Serving

  1. 5

    Slice and Serve

Slice the steak against the grain and serve with fresh parsley and a pat of butter on top, if desired.
