Ingredients for Tomahawk Chop

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the Tomahawk Chop from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30-45 minutes prior to cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Meat

Generously season both sides of the Tomahawk Chop with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Rub the seasonings into the meat.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat (about 450-500°F). If using a cast-iron skillet, preheat it on high heat on the stovetop.

  4. 4

    Sear the Chop

Drizzle olive oil over the Tomahawk Chop and place it directly on the grill or skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on each side until a nice crust forms.

  5. 5

    Add Butter and Herbs

After searing, add butter and fresh rosemary on top of the chop. Use a spoon to baste the butter over the meat while it cooks.

  6. 6

    Cook to Desired Doneness

Continue cooking, flipping occasionally, until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness (about 130°F for medium-rare). This may take an additional 10-15 minutes.

  7. 7

    Rest the Meat

Remove the Tomahawk Chop from the grill and let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  8. 8

    Serve

Slice the meat off the bone and serve with your choice of sides.
