Waffle Batter

Method

Prepare the Waffle Batter

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm milk (about 110°F) and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, melt the unsalted butter. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Incorporate Pearl Sugar

Fold in the pearl sugar into the batter until evenly distributed.

  6. 6

    Let the Batter Rise

Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the batter rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes to an hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Cook the Waffles

  1. 7

    Preheat Waffle Iron

Preheat your Belgian waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. 8

    Cook Waffles

Once preheated, lightly grease the waffle maker with cooking spray. Pour enough batter into the waffle iron to fill it (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup, depending on the size of your waffle maker). Close the lid and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 4-6 minutes.

  3. 9

    Repeat

Remove the cooked waffle and repeat the process with remaining batter.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 10

    Cook the Meat

In a skillet over medium heat, cook your choice of meat (bacon or sausage) until crispy and fully cooked. Set aside.

  2. 11

    Prepare Fruits

Wash the blueberries and strawberries, and slice the strawberries if needed.

Serve

  1. 12

    Plate the Waffles

Place the waffles on plates and top with blueberries, strawberries, a sprinkle of powdered sugar, and the cooked meat.

  2. 13

    Enjoy

Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Liege Wafels!
