Salad Base

Marinated Crispy Tofu

Method

Preparing the Tofu

1

Pressing the Tofu

Begin by pressing the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels, and place a heavy object on top. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

2

Marinating the Tofu

In a bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Cut the pressed tofu into cubes and place them in the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.

3

Coating and Frying

After marinating, coat each tofu cube in cornstarch. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Assembling the Salad

4

Preparing the Vegetables

While the tofu is frying, chop the cucumber, bell pepper, and green onion. For the cucumber, remove the seeds and cut it into half-moons. Dice the bell pepper and slice the green onion.

5

Combining Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine heritage greens, chopped cucumber, diced bell pepper, pineapple chunks, and sliced green onion.

6

Adding Tofu

Once the tofu is crispy, add it to the salad mixture and gently toss to combine all ingredients.

Serving

7

Final Touch

Serve the Java Island Tofu Salad immediately. You can drizzle additional sesame oil or soy sauce over the top for extra flavor if desired.
