Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well and set aside.

  2. 2

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.

  3. 3

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract into the butter mixture until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Mix Filling Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy.

Assembling and Baking

  1. 6

    Prepare Baking Dish

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish (9x13 inches) with butter or cooking spray.

  2. 7

    Layer the Dough

Spread half of the dough mixture evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

  3. 8

    Add the Filling

Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the dough layer.

  4. 9

    Top with Remaining Dough

Dollop the remaining dough mixture over the filling. It doesn't need to cover completely.

  5. 10

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Finishing Touch

  1. 11

    Prepare Topping

In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar and cocoa powder together.

  2. 12

    Serve

Allow the Dutch Files to cool slightly before dusting with the topping mixture. Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
