Method
Pie Crust Preparation
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt until well combined.
- 2
Cut in Butter
Add the chilled and cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3
Add Ice Water
Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently with a fork until the dough just comes together. Avoid overmixing.
- 4
Chill the Dough
Form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Filling Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Fruit
Wash, peel, and slice the fresh seasonal fruit as needed. Place in a large mixing bowl.
- 6
Mix Filling Ingredients
Add the granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice to the fruit. Toss gently to combine and set aside.
Assembling and Baking the Pie
- 7
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 8
- 9
Add Filling
Pour the prepared fruit filling into the pie crust and spread it evenly. Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
- 10
Top the Pie
Roll out the second half of the dough and place it over the filling. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Crimp the edges to seal.
- 11
Bake the Pie
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- 12
Cool and Serve
Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
