Method

Meatloaf Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Shape Meatloaf

Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a lined baking sheet.

Vegetable Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

Finely chop the onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the onions and bell pepper until they are soft, about 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until they are tender.

  2. 5

    Add to Meatloaf

Mix the sautéed vegetables into the meatloaf mixture before shaping it into a loaf.

Cooking Meatloaf

  1. 6

    Bake

Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Mashed Potatoes Preparation

  1. 7

    Boil Potatoes

Peel and cut potatoes into chunks. Boil in salted water until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 8

    Mash Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Gravy Preparation

  1. 9

    Make Gravy

In a saucepan, combine beef broth and bring it to a simmer. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the simmering broth and stir until thickened. Add soy sauce for flavor.

Fried Onion Strings Preparation

  1. 10

    Prepare Onions

Slice the onion into thin strips. Soak in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 11

    Coat and Fry

Dredge the soaked onions in flour mixed with salt. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium-high heat. Fry the onions in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

Assembly

  1. 12

    Serve

On a plate, serve a generous scoop of mashed potatoes, top with a slice of meatloaf, drizzle with gravy, and finish with crispy fried onion strings.
