Boil the Potatoes
In a large pot, add the Yukon Gold potatoes and cover them with cold water. Add 1 tablespoon of salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Drain the Potatoes
Carefully drain the potatoes in a colander and let them sit for a few minutes to allow excess steam to escape.
Garlic Butter Preparation

Melt the Butter
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

Once the butter has melted, add the minced garlic cloves (you can mince them using a garlic press or finely chop them with a knife) and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

Smashed Potatoes

Transfer the drained potatoes to a large bowl or a baking sheet. Using a potato masher or the bottom of a glass, gently smash each potato until slightly flattened but not completely broken apart.
