Method

Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half if they are too long for frying.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place flour in the first bowl, beat eggs and milk in the second bowl, and mix breadcrumbs with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, then dip in the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Make sure each stick is fully coated. Repeat for all sticks.

  4. 4

    Chill the Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.

Frying the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying them for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pot.

  3. 7

    Drain and Serve

Use a slotted spoon to remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Preparing the Tomato Sauce

  1. 8

    Sauté the Garlic

In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 9

    Combine Ingredients

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well and bring to a simmer.

  3. 10

    Finish the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, then stir in the chopped fresh basil. Remove from heat.
