Chili Base

Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Ground Beef

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Vegetables

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot with the beef. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Stir in the diced tomatoes, kidney beans (drained and rinsed), chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and water. Mix well to combine.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 5

    Prepare the Toppings

While the chili is simmering, prepare the toppings by chopping additional onion and shredding the cheddar cheese.

  2. 6

    Serve

Once the chili is ready, ladle it into bowls. Top each bowl with chopped onion and shredded cheddar cheese as desired.
