Method

Preparation

  1. 1

Start by preparing all the ingredients. Cube the beef, dice the potatoes, and chop the onion and tomato.

Cooking the Beef Curry

  1. 2

    Sauté the onions

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 3

    Add spices

Add the cumin seeds, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 4

    Add beef

Add the cubed beef to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, about 7-10 minutes.

  4. 5

    Incorporate tomatoes and spices

Stir in the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and let cook for another 5 minutes.

  5. 6

    Add potatoes and water

Add the diced potatoes to the pot and pour in the water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the beef and potatoes are tender.

  6. 7

    Finish with garam masala

Once cooked, stir in the garam masala and let it simmer uncovered for an additional 5 minutes.

Serving

  1. 8

    Prepare rice

While the curry is simmering, cook the rice according to package instructions.

  2. 9

    Serve

Serve the beef curry hot, garnished with chopped cilantro, alongside the cooked rice.
