Filet Mignon Ingredients

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the filet mignon out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This ensures even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Rub both sides with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Sprinkle fresh rosemary over the top.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy pan over medium-high heat until it's very hot.

  4. 4

    Sear the Steak

Add the filet mignon to the hot pan. Sear for about 4-5 minutes without moving it, until a brown crust forms. Flip the steak and sear the other side for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare.

  5. 5

    Add Butter

In the last minute of cooking, add the butter to the pan. Use a spoon to baste the melted butter over the steak for added flavor.

  6. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  7. 7

    Serve

Slice the filet mignon against the grain and serve with your choice of sides.
